lyrics
wake and behold the
lark in your clothing
that can’t make it out
you found it boring
these waves all unmooring
ships in the sound
coastal lights
and hotel wine
watered-down
olden rites
that still don’t quite
figure out
what now?
we could be holy,
or maybe we’re only,
haunting your house
and burnt in your mouldings,
our words writ in mourning,
heard from without
a father’s lies,
in altar wine,
watered-down
squandered time,
and all our shrines,
never found
there’s a sound
like a railroad comin’
always westward runnin’
from the rising sun and
there’s a sound
like the fall of summer
like a call of thunder
‘fore the rains wash under
there’s a sound like
there’s a sound like
but I don’t quite like
feeling like this
there’s a sound like
there’s a sound like
but I don’t quite like
feeling like this
One of the most stunning albums I've ever heard. Beautiful and meditative. The album is aptly titled, as the music brings forth images of light filtered through fall leaves and reflecting from forest streams. If there was ever a soundtrack for contemplative "shinrin-yoku", this is it. Highest recommendation. Randy Arnold
I'm guessing The Phonometrician's new instrumental, ritualistic folk-noir contemplation on death for Lost Tribe Sound; with it's anxiety inducing cover, will be one of the least clicked on blog posts of the year, but I dare you press play as it's an intense, hypnotic, achingly beautiful & ultimately liberating look at our final journey. A collection of twinkling bedroom folk-pop demos from Fahim Rahman that arcs from hushed intimacy to sweeping cinematic emotionality. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 6, 2021
A vibrant vision of "Central Americana" from the Costa Rica-based artist, blending heartland devotionals with playful Tropicália grooves. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 27, 2022
This sweet, mournful “loose concept” album from folk artist Ian McCuen tracks a journey across the bleak landscape of American life. Bandcamp New & Notable Nov 22, 2022
WRF creates sounds like not many out there, and each release holds it's own fingerprint, but this one is particularly special in it's more still and minimal nature. Some of this reminds me of Johann Johannsson's finest soundtracks (in particular Movement II) but all of it is pure beauty, and light with interspersed shadows to keep it interesting and multilayered just as the clouds drift overhead and block out the sun for a moment, the rays will beam down again as soon as the shadow passes.
